Teak Floor Refurbishment ~ Kloof ~ July 2019

For our first official job as Misty Mountain Timberworks, we were asked to refurbish a teak floor in a room which had previously had built-in cupboards along the length of the one wall. After being removed the floor needed new teak floorboards to match, and the whole floor needed to be sanded and resealed.

The first step was preparing the floor for new floorboards by removing old glue and carpet grabbers. We then began fitting the new boards and securing them to the concrete with polyurethane adhesive.

After installing all the teak boards, we began the process of sanding the whole floor. The existing floor had a few coats of stained polyurethane to remove, and sanding brought out the rich natural colours of the wood.

Once the whole floor was sanded to match, we began staining and installing all the skirting. This was followed by coating the entire floor with three coats of clear polyurethane, to maintain as much of the beautiful, natural teak colouring as possible.
